Whether you prefer to spend your time on the mountain or exploring the village, Les Gets has a wealth of activities to enjoy away from the ski slopes.
Indoor Activities
There are an abundance of shops in Les Gets, catering for both locals and visitors. You'll find a great mix of ski shops, clothing stores and gift shops, alongside traditional Alpine stores selling local produce such as Génépi and Tomme de Savoie cheese.
Coffee enthusiasts are well catered for too, with plenty of cafés serving everything from traditional café au lait and espresso to flat whites, cappuccinos and alternative milk options.
For something a little different, visit the fascinating Mechanical Music Museum, home to an impressive collection of mechanical musical instruments, music boxes and automata. For more familiar indoor entertainment, Les Gets also has a bowling alley and cinema, which regularly shows films throughout the winter season.
If you'd rather use your time off the slopes to relax, the resort's spas, including Sources du Chéry, provide the perfect place to unwind after a day in the mountains.
Outdoor Activities
As well as popular winter activities such as winter hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and telemark skiing, Les Gets offers plenty of more unusual ways to explore the mountain.
Try snow e-biking, or swap your skis for a Snooc, yooner or snowscoot and discover a completely different way to descend the slopes – with no previous skiing or snowboarding experience required for some activities.
For something a little faster, try electric snowmobiling or experience the mountains by dog sled. If you're looking for an even bigger adrenaline rush, take to the skies with tandem paragliding and enjoy spectacular views across the surrounding mountains and towards Mont Blanc.
You don't have to leave the village to enjoy the outdoors either. There's an open-air ice rink in the centre of Les Gets, while over at Les Perrières you'll find the four-season Alpine Coaster. The track stretches for more than a kilometre, with twists, turns and plenty of speed on the descent.
Les Gets also has designated sledging areas, giving younger mountain adventurers another way to enjoy the snow when they're not skiing.
For a completely different experience, Alta Lumina is a must-visit. This enchanting night-time walk takes you on a journey through the forest using light, music and immersive storytelling. The approximately 1km trail creates a magical experience that's suitable for both adults and children.
Still have some energy left? Head to FitLife in the village centre for a gym session or join one of its fitness classes. If yoga is more your thing, local classes offer everything from energetic flows to slower sessions designed to stretch tired muscles after a day on the mountain.
Events
Christmas in Les Gets – The festive season brings special entertainment and celebrations to the village, including appearances from Father Christmas and plenty of family-friendly activities.
Torchlight Descents – During the winter season, Les Gets' ski schools organise spectacular torchlight descents, with instructors skiing down the mountain after dark carrying illuminated torches. Dates vary throughout the season, so check the resort programme during your stay.
Les Gets Comedy Festival – Taking place during the winter season, the comedy festival brings together French and international performers for evenings of live comedy – an entertaining way to finish a day on the slopes.
Rock the Pistes – This annual music festival takes over the Portes du Soleil towards the end of the ski season, with live performances staged at spectacular mountain locations across resorts in France and Switzerland. Skiers can travel from one concert to another during the day, while many venues can also be reached by pedestrians using the lifts. Access to the mountain concerts is included with the appropriate Portes du Soleil ski or pedestrian lift pass, making it one of the most unusual après-ski experiences in the Alps.
